BY JOHANNA MPINDI
The vice president Uganda Local government Association ULGA who also doubles as chair person Gulu District Martin Mapenduzi Ojara has urged government to slow down on the creation of new districts since it’s objective shall not be achieved.

Currently the country has about 117 districts but by 2019,they shall have reached 124 because some new districts were approved though some are not yet effective.

Mapenduzi says local governments don’t have enough revenue and only receive 12%from the Central government which cannot finance all the projects the districts have to implement.

Mapenduzi was speaking in a dialogue  organised by Civil societies at makerere university to review the performance of local governments.
