Business man Rajiv Suparelia, the son to tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia this morning survived an assassination attempt by police guards attached to Bank of Uganda.
This website www.pressug.com  understands that police officers driving at breakneck speed in a van attempted to run over Rajiv as he was jogging near his father’s house in Kololo.
Rajiv Ruparelia has spoken out about this morning incident in which he says was a racial attack against him by police officers near his home in Kololo, an upscale area of Kampala City.
He narrated that while walking with his dogs, Rajiv saw a vehicle racing up on a terrific speed and that he wanted to inquire from them why they were driving on a high speed on a residential road.
“I stopped to tell them that it was not safe for anybody to drive that fast on a residential road. I and my dogs were walking and I asked why an individual must drive this reckless,” Said Rajiv.
“I requested in a simple way but an officer angrily said to me that this is not India, this is Uganda. The police officer was not in an identified police vehicle, it was a private car. Based on that I had no idea that this was police.” Rajiv added
According to the businessman, the policeman also asked him why he should ask him to slow down; “I did not know there were several other officers in the car, they got out and started beating me.”
“In the process of beating me, I was no longer able to hold my dogs. If someone is beating you how do you control dogs? I released them and they started running,” he added.
Rajiv explained that he was only saved by his dogs which immediately intervened upon seeing the policemen beating their master with sticks and gun butts.
“My dog watcher came to help me and in the process he was also beaten badly and he is now in hospital. As they were leaving they knocked him with the car but they did not take his life,” he added.
PressUg managed to have a comment from Kampala metropolitan Spokesperson Patrick Onyango about the incident. “I get to know about it but Let me cross check I will get back to you” Said Onyang
