UTB launches Fort portal tourism, cultural festival

Uganda Tourism Board has on Wednesday officially launched the annual Fort Portal Tourism and Cultural Festival.

This after partnering with Fort Portal Municipal Council and private sector players under NYK logistics to hold the Tooro cultural Festival.

The event that is slated for the 26th to 28th of October this year will bring together sports, tourism and cultural activities from Fort Portal and surrounding areas will be celebrated under the theme celebrating nature, Beauty and Culture.

Beyond tourism, the festival will hold a golf tournament where winners are to be awarded this after gold being awarded recently as a major mover of people around the country with the last tournament in Mbale bringing in golfers from neighboring Kenya.

Addressing the media at media Centre Kampala, the Executive Director Steven Asiimwe Uganda Tourism Board said that the Tooro tourism festival is one of the many domestic tourism campaigns that UTB has supported to promote regional travel through Uganda and also Increase visibility of the national parks that have contributed to tourism in the country as Fort portal has been earmarked as the Tourism City of Uganda by National Vision 2040, so it’s based on this that it should be promoted on an annual basis.

He explained that, Tooro region is home to four national parks including Kibaale, Rwenzori, Queen Elizabeth and sebulik national parks and of the 10national parks in Fort Portal these four national parks contribute to about 45% to  the Uganda tourism Industry.
