Meat traders under their umbrella body City abattoir and trader’s development agency (CATDA) have condemned Kampala capital city authority over disseminating information through media that, they use chemicals to treat dead bodies known as formalin, to preserve meat.
addressing the media after interfacing with KCCA’ inspection and health team at KCCA city hall, Abbey Munoba, chairperson “CATDA” refuted the information saying, these are just allegations with an intent to tarnish their name as well as destroying their business, adding that, they have never used any chemicals related to formalin, thus appealing to KCCA to carry out various samples on meat before publically releasing such information
Last week KCCA, conducted operation within Kampala city over meat traders, and arrested some of them whom are allegedly spraying chemicals on meat for preservation, but killing flies.
Meanwhile Dr Ihimbisibwa Emilian, head of inspection, health and education department KCCA, says they are to conduct various operations per week within Kampala city looking for such traders and butchers that are not meeting standards to ensure that people consume fresh and quality meat. SB:
