Education: Forum for academic staff of public universities in Uganda (FASPU) which brings together all the academic staff in public universities in Uganda through their staff association executive have re-emphasized their argument of equitable distribution of 50billion shillings from Professor to teaching assistant as proposed by president Museveni.
Ojambo Robert, the public relations officer for forum for academic staff of public universities in Uganda (FASPU) said that they have discussed a number of things and resolved to maintain their stand of equal distribution of 50 billion shillings which must be implemented in the salary structure published on 2nd of April 2020.
Ojambo adds that in the Monday meeting with the ministry of education’s permanent secretary Mr. Kakooza they agreed to work together to lure ministry of public services to implement the equitable distribution of money.
The FASPU also held a zoom meeting with the permanent secretary public service madam Catherine where they shared information however the PS left the meeting before reaching conclusion and they are yet to establish reasons why she did so.
“We want to let her know, we don’t want conflicts in Universities and this can only be avoided if the structure mode to be implement is the one published on 2nd of April 2020 which shows equitable distribution of the 50 billion” Said Ojambo
He said that public university academic staff are willing to negotiate, ” We are not requesting more money from Government, we are not saying we want more money more than the 50billion given this year.
we all understand the situation the country is going through, it’s a difficult time not only in Uganda but across the world and no one can demand more money because the budget is tight now.” said Ojambo
“Meanwhile, we have accepted the 50billion that was released by Government. The only thing we are saying those 50billion should be distributed equitably as president Museveni’s proposed from Professor to teaching assistant equally.” Said Ojambo
