Electoral commission has revealed that the former Kamuli Municipality legislator whose victory was nullified by court of appeal Hajjati Rehema Wetongola over academic qualification is at liberty to stand again in the upcoming by elections due on 12th of April.
This has been revealed by the electoral commission chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon at the press conference were they unveiled the program for the kamuli municipality seat.
Justice Byabakama said that everyone is eligible to stand for any elective administrative post for as long as one meets the perquisites and this can only be determined by commission at the nomination time a comment that leaves Wetongola an oppurtunity to stand again for the same seat as she earlier asserted.
According to the rolled out program for kamuli municipality by elections, update of the national voter’s register will be on the 9th-13th of march, consultative meeting with the stake holders on 10th march, display of voter’s register 22nd to 31 march, nominations will be on the 23rd to 24th of march , campaigns 27th march to 10th April and polling day and tallying of results will be on the 12th of April this year
There will also be a public scrutinize of the candidate’ nomination papers from 23rd to 28th march to enable them lodge complaints, if any, on the suitability of the candidates to contest in the by-elections
