Women under their umbrella body, Women Organisation Network for Human Rights Advocacy (WONETHA) with the aim of promoting hygiene and cleanliness, have together with police painted the women cell at Katwe Police Station.
The spokesperson of the organization Dianna Natukunda saud that the move is aimed at promoting good relationship with the police force as well as to reduce on crime rates that are alledged said to be aided by sex workers around the country.
Dianna also expressed concern on the way police handles sex workers whenerever they report to them.
Dianna narrated that policemen have made it a habit to manhandle sex workers during arrests thus a call to the police leadership to recruit more women in the force who can preserve their dignity especially during their operations.
Women inmates found in this cell have applauded WONETHA for the great work done towards improving their hygiene conditions.
The DPC Katwe Police Division Lwemusayi Frantile welcomed the activity adding that it will promote their relationship.
He revealed that the sex workers have always been cooperative especially on informing them about crimes in their localities which has helped the a lot on the reduction of crime rates around Katwe and the surrounding areas though they are still have a long journey in achieving a crime free society
