Uganda Bureau of Statistics has said that by Sunday night, 98% of the households had been enumerated during the ongoing census exercise.

“By midnight on Sunday,  we had covered 10.4 million households .This is almost 98% coverage,” Godfrey Nabong, the UBOS deputy Executive Director said.

He said despite this coverage, the exercise was extended for more days up to May, 25 to enable those areas and households which had not been covered , get enumerated.

“What we are into is mop up exercise to cover up areas we were not able to reach, covering households we didn’t reach .Many people in urban areas were not available during the day which caused delay in completing the exercise as enumerators had to go and check their availability. We therefore extended the exercise in areas not covered and for households that missed out,” Nabong said.

He said areas like Greater Kampala, Kaabong, Amudat, Karenga an urban areas are targeted by the extension.

“ We request those not covered to avail themselves to have everybody counted.”

He however insisted that it is not a fresh exercise and that enumerators won’t be paid for the five extra days.

“Its not new or fresh assignment but continuous assignment for enumerators to complete the job they were assigned. We are not paying simply days but money for a job to be done. If you didn’t complete in 10 days, the extra days are for you to complete,” Nabong said.
