The Republic of Uganda has taken an important diplomatic and economic step toward global engagement with the signing of its Participation Contract for Expo 2027 Belgrade in Belgrade, an international gathering expected to convene nations, innovators, and policymakers around ideas shaping the future of sustainable development, culture, and economic cooperation.

The agreement formalizes Uganda’s commitment to take part in the global exposition, offering the country a strategic platform to present its development ambitions, investment opportunities, and cultural heritage to a worldwide audience. World Expos have historically served as meeting grounds where countries exchange ideas, showcase innovation, and build partnerships that extend beyond the duration of the exhibition itself. For Uganda, participation represents both a diplomatic gesture and a forward-looking economic opportunity.

The Participation Contract was signed by Mr. David Katungi, Uganda’s Section Commissioner representing the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotion Authority (UFZEPA). The ceremony was witnessed by Hon. Wilson Mbadi Mbasu, Uganda’s Minister of State for Trade, who led the country’s delegation to the event.

In his remarks, the minister emphasized that Expo 2027 provides Uganda with an important global stage to share its story and aspirations. He noted that the country intends to highlight not only its diverse cultural identity but also its growing economic sectors, investment potential, and commitment to sustainable development. According to the minister, participation in the Expo aligns with Uganda’s broader strategy of strengthening trade diplomacy, expanding international partnerships, and promoting the country as a competitive destination for investment and tourism.

Also present at the ceremony was H.E. Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, Uganda’s Ambassador to Serbia with residence in Rome, whose diplomatic engagement has played a role in advancing bilateral relations and supporting Uganda’s preparations for the global event.

Other officials in attendance included Mr. Cleopas Ndolere, Commissioner for External Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, and Mr. Mathew Bagonza, representing Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development.

Uganda’s participation in Expo 2027 is expected to strengthen the country’s global visibility while reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation. Through exhibitions, cultural showcases, and policy dialogue, Uganda aims to present a compelling narrative of a nation rich in heritage, resilient in ambition, and open to partnerships that drive inclusive and sustainable growth.
