KAMPALA — The whereabouts of Natabi Fauzia, known affectionately as Maama Kyeyune, remain unknown 17 days after she was allegedly abducted by armed men in military uniform. Fauzia is the wife of Don Sheriff Najja, a Personal Assistant to opposition leader Bobi Wine.
According to statements released by Bobi Wine, the incident occurred on March 12, 2026, during a military raid on her home. Witnesses and video footage reportedly show individuals in UPDF uniforms forcing her into a “drone” (a term locally used for unmarked vans often associated with state security) before driving away.
A Search Meeting Dead Ends
Despite the high-profile nature of the abduction and the existence of video evidence, there has been a glaring lack of accountability from state institutions.
-
Security Silence: Both the Uganda Police and the UPDF have yet to acknowledge the incident or provide information on her location.
-
Failed Inquiries: Formal reports made to security authorities and human rights organizations have, to date, yielded no meaningful updates.
-
Legal Recourse: In a bid to force the state’s hand, legal proceedings have been initiated. A court application to compel authorities to produce Fauzia is scheduled for hearing on April 1, 2026, at 8:00 AM at the High Court in Kampala.
Beyond the political friction, this is a story of a family in agony. For over two weeks, Maama Kyeyune’s family has lived in a state of “immense emotional pain,” navigating the terrifying vacuum left by a forced disappearance.
The demand from her family and legal representatives is clear: immediate and unconditional release, or at the very least, her presentation before a competent court. Under Ugandan law, no citizen should be held indefinitely without charge, yet Fauzia remains a ghost in the system.
“No family deserves to go through this. No citizen should disappear without explanation.” — Bobi Wine
As the High Court date approaches, the eyes of human rights advocates and the Ugandan public remain fixed on the authorities, waiting for an answer to the growing question: #WhereIsMaamaKyeyune?
