Arua- Joint Medical Store through its ESG Community Health Program, has handed over essential medical supplies and equipment worth UGX 5 million to support work at St Joachim and St Ann Elderly Support Mission of Arua Catholic Diocese.
On handing over the donation, Mr. Sunday Nyerochan Ouma, JMS Arua Branch Manager, revealed that this donation is part of their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Valued at UGX 500 million. Under this initiative, 125 million has been deliberately set aside to support vulnerable communities across the regions that this institution serves.
“Beyond this, Joint Medical Store is committing to an annual support of UGX 5 million for the next five years, amounting to a total of UGX 25 million.This is not a one-time gesture. It is a long-term partnership.”
He also pointed out that the elderly are the custodians of our history, our culture, and our values. They have laboured, sacrificed, and built the foundations upon which we stand today, therefore choosing
St. Joachim and Ann Elderly Support Mission was not by mistake.
“It is important to recognize that as people advance in age, they become more susceptible to a range of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and other chronic conditions. These illnesses often require continuous care, regular medication, and consistent monitoring.”
It’s from the above background that he emphasized that, for many elderly individuals, access to such care can be limited, making their later years more challenging than they should be. “It is therefore our collective responsibility to ensure that they receive the support they need, so that they can not only live longer, but live healthier, more dignified, and more comfortable lives.”
