Latifah Mixed Secondary School Kabimbiri produced a spirited comeback to defeat St Andrews Secondary School Rubindi 4-2 in the Round of 32 at the 2026 Ball Games I National Championship.
In a tightly contested match played on Sunday morning at Hilton High School playground in Mukono, Latifah Mixed showed resilience and determination to eliminate the tournament’s surprise package, St Andrews SS, and secure a place in the Round of 16.
St Andrews got off to a flying start, with Esther Ampurira finding the back of the net just seven minutes into the game to hand her side an early lead. However, Latifah Mixed responded almost immediately, as Joan Namutwa equalized in the 8th minute—just one minute after conceding—bringing the game back to level terms.
Ampurira was not done yet, as she restored St Andrews’ lead with her second goal of the match, piling pressure on the Mukono Zone first runners-up. But Latifah Mixed refused to back down. With eight minutes left before halftime, team captain Pauline Namulinda stepped up to score a crucial equalizer, ensuring her team went into the break with renewed hope.
In the second half, Namulinda took full control of the game. The captain calmly converted two penalty kicks to complete her hat-trick, sealing a 4-2 victory and guiding Latifah Mixed into the Round of 16.
This victory makes Latifah Mixed SS the only team from Mukono Zone to progress to this stage of the competition. Earlier in the day, Lugazi Homestone suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Jinja Progressive Academy at the same venue, a result that left many supporters stunned.
Latifah Mixed SS will now face Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga in the Round of 16 on Monday, May 4th, with the match time and venue yet to be confirmed. Uganda Martyrs Lubaga advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Bugisu High School, winning 5-4 following a goalless draw in normal time.
With momentum on their side and a captain in top form, Latifah Mixed SS will be confident as they prepare for their next challenge in the championship.
