Besigye Urges Caution in Pursuit of Political Transformation
Kizza Besigye, a prominent figure in Ugandan politics, expressed his thoughts on the anticipated departure of President Museveni in a recent statement. Besigye acknowledged that many would celebrate when Museveni exits the political stage, including himself. However, he questioned whether such celebrations would truly signify the change that Uganda needs.
Besigye emphasized the importance of clarity regarding the type of change the country requires. He cautioned against merely swapping one set of leaders for another, emphasizing that meaningful change must go beyond a mere change of guards. This sentiment reflects Besigye’s longstanding advocacy for substantial reforms in Uganda’s political system.
On the other hand, critics, particularly from the FDC Katonga faction, have suggested a different approach. They propose that Kizza Besigye step aside and retire from active politics. Additionally, they suggest that other members of the faction should align with Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) rather than forming a new party.

Critics argue that forming a new party may not be the most effective strategy for achieving their goals. Instead, they believe that joining forces with existing political entities, such as ANT, could consolidate efforts and resources towards a common objective.
