Anita Annet Among has rallied leaders in Bukedea District to embrace unity and teamwork as a strategy for improving service delivery and accelerating development across the district.
The Speaker made the remarks during a luncheon held at Hotel Africana shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected leaders, in an event that brought together political leaders, supporters, and residents from Bukedea in a rare public display of solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, Among thanked the people of Bukedea and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the trust and confidence they had placed in her leadership. She emphasized that development can only be achieved when leaders work together with a common purpose.
“Unity among leaders is the foundation for development and better service delivery,” Among said. “Our responsibility is to ensure that the voices and interests of the people of Bukedea remain our top priority.”
She praised the performance of Uganda’s 11th Parliament, describing it as people-centered and responsive to national concerns, while pledging to continue championing the welfare of ordinary Ugandans in the 12th Parliament.
“The spirit of teamwork we are witnessing today will continue because we are committed to delivering meaningful change for our people,” she added.
Bukedea Members of Parliament Beecham David Okwere and Opolot Shagi also pledged to strengthen cooperation among leaders in the district.
Hon. Opolot urged all leaders, from Members of Parliament to local council officials, to focus on service delivery rather than engaging in divisive politics.
“This time, we do not want unnecessary political conflicts. Every leader must focus on serving the people,” he said.
Hon. Okwere described Bukedea’s leadership as united and determined to move in one direction for the advancement of the district.
“We speak one language and move together because our focus is development,” he noted.
NRM Chairperson for Bukedea District Epilo Isaac attributed the growing unity to inclusive leadership and a shared commitment among leaders to improve the welfare of residents.
Among’s Personal Assistant Akol Ziporah highlighted ongoing development initiatives in the district, including sanitation campaigns, distribution of Anita Okwere liquid soap, the acquisition of an ambulance, and empowerment programs for women and youth groups.
“Bukedea is steadily progressing because leaders are working together and putting people first,” she said.
District councilor and musician Otinga Johnson described the unity among Bukedea leaders as unprecedented, saying it marked a significant departure from past political divisions.
Residents also welcomed the cooperation among their leaders, expressing optimism that the unity spearheaded by Among would translate into better services and faster development.
NRM supporter Rukiah Apolot praised the Speaker for what she described as dedicated and people-centered leadership.
“Speaker Among has shown commitment to serving both Bukedea and the entire country, and that is why people continue to trust her leadership,” she said.
The event ended with renewed optimism among residents, many expressing hope that the strengthened cooperation championed by Among would usher in a new era of transformation and prosperity for Bukedea District.
