Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has affirmed his commitment to addressing pressing issues despite facing intimidation tactics, such as the cancellation of outreach programs.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Kyagulanyi expressed disappointment over the cancellation of a radio program in Dokolo on Monday morning. Allegedly, the radio station management cited fear of repercussions from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to switch them off if they aired the program.
“Despite attempts to intimidate us by confiscating public address systems at the last minute, the message of change will persist,” Kyagulanyi emphasized.
Currently in Dokolo, Kyagulanyi and key figures of the National Unity Platform (NUP) are campaigning for Harriet Ageno, the party’s candidate vying for the vacant seat of the woman district legislator, left vacant following the passing of Hon. Cecilia Ogwal in late January.
The Electoral Commission nominated seven candidates for the upcoming by-election on March 12, including Adongo Janet Elau (NRM), Ageno Harriet (NUP), Aguti Sarah (UPC), Akullo Esther (IND), Alwoc Austine Ogwal (FDC), Arao Rebecca (IND), and Lalam Grace Hanna (IND).
Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, stated in a weekly press briefing at Police headquarters in Kampala that the campaigns are progressing smoothly, with no major incidents reported, and the district remains peaceful.
According to the Electoral Commission’s schedule, campaigns will conclude on Tuesday, March 19, with polling day set for March 21.
