Kawempe Muslim SS continued to stamp its authority at the ongoing USSSA Ball Games II in Gulu after both its U17 and U14 girls’ football teams secured places in the knockout stages with impressive victories on Sunday.
The giants booked a place in the U17 quarter-finals after edging Tororo Girls Secondary School 1-0 in a contested Group A encounter played at Daniel Comboni Vocational Institute playground.
Captain Shadia Nabirye emerged the heroic for Kawempe, scoring the decisive goal just a minute into the second half to hand her side maximum points and maintain their unbeaten run in the competition.
The victory saw Kawempe finish top of Group A with seven points after three matches. The Kampala-based side also ended the group stage with an outstanding defensive record, conceding no goal while scoring 10.
Kawempe’s success extended to the CAF U14 Schools Championship qualifiers, where they defeated rivals Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 2-0 to seal a place in the semi-finals.
Defender Mariam Nakkazi opened the scoring before forward Charity Assimwe wrapped up the victory, as Kawempe avenged their 2-0 defeat to Uganda Martyrs in the Kampala regional final.
The result ensured Kawempe finished top of Group A with seven points, while Uganda Martyrs also progressed to the last four as group runners-up with six points.
Attention now shifts to Group B, where St. Noa Girls Secondary School has already completed its fixtures and leads the standings with 10 points. Boni Consilii Girls Vocational School sits on four points with one match remaining, while Amus College School also has four points but still has two games to play, leaving the race for the remaining semi-final places wide open.
