Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba
President Museveni ran the long leg. But as he edges closer to the finish line, he has already set the foundation.
Roads, stability, regional weight. That’s done. But relays are not won by slowing down. The baton only moves forward when it is passed to someone already running at full speed.
A baton is not handed to someone standing still. It goes to the person matching the pace, with eyes on the finish line. We have to agree that for the next five years, we are in a transition. Heir-apparent Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba does not need another room of paper-pushers with degrees and no callus on their hands.
What he needs now is a reliable think tank with real exposure. People with screwdrivers; not just PowerPoint. People who have built, fixed and delivered when it mattered. This is not about theory. It is about operators who know how cities, industries and systems actually work.
Blend that with his Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) discipline and military execution and you get unstoppable alignment. So, fear should be natural, not manufactured.
Archimedes and Albert Einstein are still the foundation of engineering and knowledge 400 years later. Nobody feared them because of a sword. They were feared because of knowledge. Because when they spoke, the math worked. The bridges stood and the rockets launched.
That is the fear factor Gen Muhoozi needs: gradual, natural, built on results. When the cities run, the drainage works, the markets move, and the youth see jobs created, respect follows. Not because you demanded it. Because you earned it.
In the circumstances, I propose Gen Muhoozi to be in charge of the major cities with real mandate. He has already demonstrated that he can deploy disciplined military officers in key positions in the military and intelligence.
He can do so as well when it comes to town clerks, chief administrative officers and city executive directors. And this is not for intimidation but for delivery and deadlines that mean something.
On a wider scale, he holds the capacity to blend old generational wisdom with young generational hunger. He recently just delivered a new house speaker in the indefatigable Jacob Oboth Oboth. With him, he can add the patriotism style Commissioner Hellen Seku has adopted at the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC).
Under the NSPC entity, people who love Uganda enough have stopped the games and started building. That is how you turn foundation into visible progress. Traffic flowing. Drainage working. Factories running. Academies producing talent.
I am not writing rocket science because the model is proven. For instance, Morocco cleaned up delivery and now competes at the world level. We have read for years how Singapore built from nothing into a global hub through discipline and execution.
Meanwhile, Malaysia used focused leadership and infrastructure to transform its economy. Do I need to mention that Namibia leveraged stability and focused governance to secure its place?
So, Uganda sits in the same lane. But only if the handoff is to someone running, backed by people who know how to build.
The call is now for Gen Muhoozi. President Museveni has run the long leg. The relay must move. Let Gen Muhoozi be given the cities. Give him a think tank of doers. Let knowledge and discipline replace excuses and stalled files.
Results create fear. Results create respect. Results create legacy and Gen Muhoozi has all that. The baton is ready. The runner is running. Hand it over and let’s move mountains.
