The police in Nakapiripirit district have arrested two women as prime suspects in the mob killing of a police constable attached to Namalu police station.
The suspects, identified as Sylvia Napeyok, 29, and Beatrice Eji, 46, are residents of Nalait B Village in Loperot Parish, Kawach sub-county.
The arrests stem from investigations into the killing of police constable Richard Nokrach, who was attacked and killed on May 26, 2026.
According to police, Nokrach was returning from Moru Ajore checkpoint to Namalu police station when he allegedly knocked and injured an elderly man at Nalait trading centre. The incident occurred in the evening and reportedly triggered a mob attack that left the officer dead.
Napeyok and Eji were arrested after being implicated by two other suspects, Lochuge Jacob and Lazarus Abura, who were apprehended shortly after the killing.
Kassim Kakembo, the officer-in-charge of Namalu police station, said investigations are ongoing and police are still hunting for two more suspects believed to have participated in the attack.
“We remain committed to ensuring that all those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice. We commend the joint team for their swift response and urge the public to cooperate with investigators,” Kakembo said.
Police say efforts to trace the remaining suspects are underway as investigators seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring all those involved before the courts.
