Masaka Take Lead in Election Petitions as Judiciary Enter Final Preparation Stage


Kampala– As the Judiciary prepares to commence the hearing of 118 Election Petitions resulting from the recently concluded elections at both Parliamentary and Local Government level, Masaka has been ranked as the district with the highest number of petitions filed before the High Court.

“We have ascertained the number of files as Judiciary and we are currently the process of resource allocation and any time from now we are starting with hearing of these petitions. We want to urge Ugandans to stay calm, support us , let us move together.” His Worship James Mawanda Ereemye told journalists on Monday.
He dismissed rumors that Court has delayed hearing these matters, stating that they are still with in the six months period under which they must hear and dispose off election Petitions.
“Again it’s not true that Judges will be sent to different places depending on the needs of some individuals, but it will be for adjudication purposes. These are professional people who have taken Judicial oath to serve all Ugandans in accordance with the law.”
In the same line, Judiciary has also concluded the training of Court of Appeal Justices on proper handling of election appeals since after High Court decisions many of those who are not contented are expected to appeal.
