Police in Arua City have recovered 27 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen during an operation conducted on Tuesday morning following the arrest of a suspect linked to motorcycle theft.
According to the West Nile Regional Police spokesperson, SSP Josephine Angucia, officers from Arua Central Business Division arrested a suspect at around 6:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026, in connection with an ongoing investigation into motorcycle theft.
During the operation, the suspect reportedly led investigators to Hidmola Hotel, formerly known as Republic Hotel, located along Lemerujua Road in Obolokofuku Cell, Central Ward, Arua City. The suspect allegedly revealed the location where a stolen motorcycle had been hidden within the hotel’s parking area.
Upon recovering the motorcycle, police say the suspect identified several other motorcycles suspected to have been stolen and parked within the same compound.
The discovery prompted officers to inspect the parking yard, where they found numerous motorcycles without registration numbers or ownership details. As a result, the police impounded additional motorcycles for verification and further investigation.
In total, 27 unregistered motorcycles were recovered and transported to Arua City Central Business Division Police Station, where they are currently being held pending ownership verification and ongoing investigations.
Police have since opened a General Enquiry File (GEF) to facilitate investigations. The proprietor and manager of the premises have recorded statements to assist detectives in establishing how the motorcycles ended up at the location.
SSP Angucia urged members of the public who may have lost motorcycles to visit Arua Central Police Station and verify whether any of the recovered motorcycles belong to them.
“We encourage all persons who may have lost motorcycles to come forward and cross-check the recovered motorcycles to establish ownership,” she said.
Police say more operations are underway as investigators continue to pursue leads aimed at dismantling suspected motorcycle theft networks operating in the region.
The recovery is expected to provide crucial leads in ongoing efforts to combat motorcycle theft, a crime that has become a growing concern among riders and owners across the West Nile sub-region.
