The government has allocated 2.4 billion Shillings for the construction of another seed school in Bududa district.
The contract was awarded to Akol Holdings and the period of contraction is 18 months. This is the sixth seed school in Bududa district in addition to Bumayoka, Shitumi, Bubiita, Nakatsi, and Bushiyi seed schools.
According to Issa Bukoma the Bududa District Engineer, the money will be used to construct six classroom blocks, 2 teachers’ houses, two latrines, a library, a computer lab, laboratory, a multipurpose hall, and playground.
Speaking after the launch of construction on Thursday at Bushiribo Primary School playground, Afrikano Aharikondira the Resident District Commissioner asked the community members to enroll their children at the school after construction.
Betty Khainza Naster, the Bududa District Education Officer, says the few schools in the district have affected school enrollment. She however asked the contractor to deliver quality work and leaders, and community members to supervise the project to curb shoddy work.
Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi the LCV Chairperson Bududa said there was a need for another seed school in Bududa or even more given the terrain which is difficult to walk and the high rate of school dropouts as this is partly attributed to long distances to schools.
Edward Wanakina the acting head teacher of the school said they are currently using the nearby church which was partitioned into classrooms from senior one to three. He added by asking the government to consider the teachers in the school when the time of recruitment comes.
About 285 seed schools will be constructed in several Sub counties across the country this financial year to address the shortage of Secondary schools.
