Police have announced they have again, halted the mobilization tours for National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine with immediate effect.

In a statement on Friday evening, police said the earlier accident in which three people died at Maya along Masaka highway as Kyagulanyi’s procession headed to Masaka showed that the opposition politician has failed to heed to set guidelines.

“The loss of the innocent lives was a result of recklessness of the drivers and riders who were driving in excess speed without regard to other road users,” Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said.

“As the government agency mandated to protect life and property, keep law and order, the police management has decided to halt any further consultative activities of NUP as a party with immediate effect until this matter is conclusively investigated and resolved.”

Enanga noted that whereas police had met with the NUP leadership and agreed on how to proceed with the consultative meetings, the opposition party had disregarded the agreed position.

“NUP have disregarded the agreed position and continue to act with impunity as demonstrated in today’s unfortunate incident at Maya.”

“We appeal to the public to remain vigilant, observe law and order. Whoever acts contrary to public order and safety shall be held accountable under the laws of Uganda. The safety of Ugandans will always remain our priority.”
