The National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has no kind work for the Anglican Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese, Michael Lubowa who openly begged President Museveni for a new car.
After saying a word of prayer at the official opening of the National Heroes Day celebrations held in Gomba district on Sunday, Bp. Lubowa told President Museveni that his car is so old and asked for a new one.
A short video of Bp. Lubowa making plea before President Museveni is all over social media and many Ugandans have also rebuked him for the act which they regard as uncalled for saying he (Bp. Lubowa) tarnished the image of the Church.
Kyagulanyi said after downgrading himself to that level equivalent to a peasant begging for something from his master, Bp. Lubowa cannot act out rightly as expected from a person of his stature to hold the government accountable where need arises.
Through his X handle, Kyagulanyi’s message reads as follows;
“Without shame, Rev. Bp. Michael Lubowa requests Gen. Museveni for a new vehicle, reminding him that the 2026 election is close. This is what the dictatorship has done to Uganda. How is such a person expected to condemn corruption and oppression on God’s people by the same regime he begs for favours?”
In the video, Bp. Lubowa says, “President my Master after praying, allow me to tell you that, there are a lot of things we think that will reach you, I wish you allow me to send my words through the Permanent Secretary (PS) to you. But my vehicle is old, it won’t finish 2026 yet you very well know that we are encroaching 2026. May God bless you, I am flanked by other religious leaders. But please, allow the PS to come so that I can send you my message.”
