Police in Lira District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the head teacher of Okio Primary School, Aromo Sub-county, which occurred early Monday morning.
Moses Bua, the LCI chairman of Anai Cell in Lira City, reported the incident to the police at Lira City West Division, suggesting that Umar Shadick’s death might have been a suicide.
Shadick’s wife, Sharafina, informed the police that he woke up around 1 am to go outside but did not return. His body was discovered around 7 am, hanging from a mango tree a few meters from their house.
The body was transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary for a postmortem examination. The North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, stated that the police are keen to understand the exact events leading to the death and urged the relatives to remain calm and wait for the postmortem report, which will guide the next steps in the investigation.
