Museveni Reassures Luwero Residents Against Land Grabbing

0

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting tenants from land grabbers, emphasizing that the local council (LC) system is in place to defend the interests of the people.

“What is the use of the LC system if they cannot defend the interests of the people?” the President questioned during the launch of the Kalule Community Playground and the inauguration of the Kaguta Block at Excel Vocational Training Center in Kalule Parish, Nyimbwa Sub County, Luwero District.

Addressing the residents, President Museveni assured them that no one is allowed to evict them from their land, even if they possess a land title. He noted that land disputes persist because people have not heeded the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) advice on managing landlord-tenant relationships.

He pointed out that historical mistakes made by colonialists, who awarded land without considering the original inhabitants, continue to cause problems. The President emphasized that if citizens utilize the NRM structures, such as the LC system, which the government established to protect their interests, land issues could be effectively addressed.

President Museveni also urged Ugandans to use their voting power to choose leaders who will advocate for and protect their rights.

In his remarks, the President congratulated Hajji Mwanje Shafic, the founder of Excel Vocational Training Center, for his significant contribution to the education sector in Uganda. “Hajji Mwanje has challenged many because how can a blind person achieve what many with sight cannot?” he remarked.

The President reiterated his long-standing message on wealth creation, which the NRM Government has promoted since 1986. He encouraged the people of Luwero to adopt the four-acre farming model to stabilize their household incomes.

He advised residents to grow coffee on the first acre, plant fruit trees on the second, use the third acre for pasture for zero grazing, and cultivate food crops on the fourth.

Additionally, he recommended poultry and piggery for those not bound by religious restrictions and suggested fish farming for those near swamps.

“The sooner you embrace the NRM’s wealth creation message, the better,” President Museveni urged the people of Luwero.

The Minister of State for Higher Education, John Chrysestom Muyingo, praised the President for his visionary leadership, which he said has spurred development in Luwero. Similarly, the Minister for Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Region, Hon. Alice Kaboyo, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for establishing Luwero Hospital, which, once complete, will provide essential medical services to the local population. She also assured residents that the government would continue compensating war victims.

Hajjat Hadijah Uzeiye Namyalo, Head of the Office of the National Chairman-NRM, called on the President to intensify efforts against land grabbing in Luwero.

Hajji Mwanje Shafic, Director of Excel Vocational Training Center and NRM Chairman for Bukomansimbi District, expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for his leadership, which he credited with driving Uganda’s development.

He also thanked the parents for entrusting their children to Excel Vocational Training Center, attributing the institution’s success to their support.

Additionally, he acknowledged the President’s assistance in reconstructing the Center’s building after a devastating fire.

Ms. Najjuma Sarah, Principal of Excel Vocational Training Center, highlighted the institution’s growth, noting that it has enrolled over 3,000 students in technical training and business programs. She explained that the Center was established in Kalule to combat unemployment by equipping students with vocational skills.
