Proscovia Alako bagged the Player of the Match award as Soroti City edged Olila by 16 runs to retain the National Women’s T20 League title on Saturday.
After Olila winning the toss, and sending their sister club in to bat first, they were tasked to register 126 after City put 125/6 on board.
Patricia Timong (15), Esther Iloku (18) and their captain Janet Mbabazi (18)- Soroti’s top order gave their side a good start, but it was Alako who delivered the goods for the side.
The once opening batter for both club and country entered at No.5, and once again proved the catalyst of the team. The former Aziz Damani opener took Olila’s bowlers for a ride as she registered 43 to her name.
Alako knocked 4 sixes and 3 fours to inspire her side to a score that Olila fell short of.
With the aforementioned trio’ efforts, and Naome Amongin’s paltry 10, Olila were always going to have a difficult task to track down the score.
Victoria Pearls’ all rounder Phionah Kulume (32), and her national team teammate, Malisa Ariokot (34) gave their fans a reason to believe in the chase, but when both fell, it proved a hard task for Olila.
Soroty City now has two league titles to their name. Prior last year they had not won any major tournament, but with two titles to their now, they ate surely a team to pay attention to.
Olila on the other had will continue with the search as they came closer this minute.
