Arua Hill have lured versatile defender Derrick Ocen to their side, as they’ve started early preparations for the 2024/25 FUFA Big League season coming ahead.
The defender adds experience to the side that’s only being reassembled, having also previously played for Lugazi in the FUFA Big League, plus Onduparaka and URA in the Uganda Premier League (UPL).
Ocen also brings in versatility – the industrious leftback can as well comfortably play in central defense and in various midfield roles respectively.
Ocen was linked with a move to the Rwanda Premier League, but he easily chose Arua Hill, when the now Gulu-based club came calling. Gulu is home to the Acholi Province player.
Apparently, Arua Hill have shifted base to Gulu, where the new owners, Credo Primary School have taken full charge of the club, taking over from Eng. Joel Aita’s DI.
“After a season, we shall change the club name as it is in the FUFA rules. Our ambition is to get promoted to UPL in the first season of asking,” Arua Hill newly appointed PRO James Obalo revealed.
The club hosted UPL side KCCA in a friendly match at Pece Stadium on Saturday. It was their first game since shifting to Gulu, and they beat the Kasasiro Boys 2-1.
Starting next season, Arua Hill will host their games at Pece Stadium, Gulu, while Layibi playground has been secured as the training pitch.
Besides Ocen, the club has also signed a number of other players, including midfielder Simon Okot and rightback Umar Mukobe from Mbale Heroes.
The others are; Gerald Kirya, Desmond Arop, Simon Otto, George Akena, Charles Akena, Anwar Kapole, Ivan Oceng, Brian Odongo and Clinton Mugerwa among others.
