The 10th annual Kids of Africa Run, held on Sunday, September 8 at Kids Pioneer School in Entebbe, drew over a thousand participants from various backgrounds.

This year’s event, sponsored in part by I&M Bank Uganda, featured races in several categories, including 5km, 10km, and 21km runs, as well as a 21km bicycle race.

The 2024 run focused on raising awareness and promoting the use of reusable sanitary pads to help keep girls in school. Proceeds from the event will support Days for Girls, an NGO dedicated to breaking the stigma around menstrual health and improving education and opportunities for women and girls.

The race brought together families, individuals, and corporate teams, creating a strong sense of community.

“Today, we had a really good turnout, and we are humbled. This event is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a step towards a brighter future for countless young girls,” said Esbern Budolfsen, Deputy National Director of Kids of Africa.

I&M Bank, which also sponsored the event in 2022, emphasized its commitment to supporting impactful community initiatives.

“We are especially proud to champion such a crucial cause—improving access to reusable sanitary pads to keep girls in school,” said Racheal Kulanyi, Communications and Outreach Officer at I&M Bank.

In the men’s 21km race, Kevin Cheptoek from Kapchorwa claimed victory with a time of 1:07:11.4, while Ella triumphed in the women’s race, finishing in 1:07:18.3.

Other winners included Daniel Comboni in the men’s 10km race and Sylvia Chelangat in the women’s 10km event.

The day concluded with a lively performance by popular artist Azawi, capping off the event with music and celebration.
