Preview: Kavazovic Seeks To Make Amends

Vipers will be aiming for their first win of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season as they host Express under the Kitende floodlights.

The Venoms, widely tipped to win this year’s league title, began their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to NEC.

Livingston Mulondo’s goal served as a mere consolation after Muzamir Mutyaba, Paul Mucureezi, and Cromwell Rwothomio sealed the victory for NEC.

It was Vipers’ first opening-day loss since 2012 when they fell to the now defunct Entebbe FC 2-1, a season where they eventually finished third.

After a rough start, Vipers will look to bounce back against an Express side that managed a 2-1 win over Mbale Heroes.

Coach Nikola Kavazovic is expected to make one or two changes, particularly in midfield, which struggled against NEC.

Striker Yunus Sentamu, who started on the bench, is also likely to be included in the starting lineup this time.

Anything less than a win could see Kavazovic come under pressure from club president Lawrence Mulindwa, known for his impatience with underperformance.

On the other hand, Express will be eager to build on their opening win. Though they struggled against the newcomers before new signing Sam Ssenyonjo’s goals secured a hard-fought victory.

Mustafa Kizza, who missed a penalty, and Saidi Kyeyune will also be keen to impress in this fixture.
