On March 17, Canada invited 183 Express Entry applicants to apply for permanent residence.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited applicants with a minimum score of 682. This Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement may seem high, but that’s because everyone invited had already received a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Express Entry candidates who achieve a provincial nomination automatically receive 600 points in addition to their initial human capital score. This means that those who achieved the minimum score of 682 would have initially achieved a CRS score of 82 without the provincial nomination.
Applicants with a minimum score of 682 were only included if they had submitted their Express Entry profile by March 4, 2021, at 16:56:20 UTC, by the tie-break rule. IRCC publishes the cut-off time for the tie-breaker as an administrative requirement, whether or not there is a tie.
This is the second consecutive draw specific to PNP. On March 8, Canada invited 671 PNP applicants to apply for permanent residence.

IRCC has issued a total of 38,840 Invitation to Apply (ITAs) so far this year. This is about three times more than the number of IRCs issued by IRCC at the same time last year. Due to the low number of new immigrants admitted in 2020, Canada has set itself the ambitious goal of welcoming 401,000 newcomers in 2021. Canada has allocated most of the available places to newcomers from Express Entry.
The majority of those invitations came from when IRCC issued 27,332 ITAs on Saturday, February 13. This was not only the largest Express Entry draw ever, but also a historically low CRS requirement of 75. All Express Entry candidates in the pool who were eligible for the Canadian experience category were invited to apply for permanent residence in this draw.
