Express Entry applicants are one step closer to permanent resident status after Alberta held another draw on March 2.
Minimum points required in latest Alberta PNP draw
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) issued a total of 200 invitations to the express entry candidates who have applied for a provincial nomination through AINP’s Express entry stream. Applicants only needed a score of at least 301 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Those invited can now apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada.
All applicants invited to the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw had a profile in the Express Entry system.
Candidates with Alberta provincial nominations will automatically get additional 600 CRS points.
This means that invited applicants who score equal to the minimum requirement of this draw would get a new CRS score of 901.

Alberta PNP Express Entry Stream
This enhanced PNP is intended for Express Entry applicants who have strong ties to Alberta or who can support government priorities for economic development and diversification. During the pandemic, Alberta only considers applicants who already live and work in the province.
Applicants need to have work experience in an eligible occupation. The AINP only provides a list of occupations that are not eligible for the stream’s requirements.
The federal government has increased the number of professions that are not eligible for LMIA in Alberta on November 1, 2020. However, applicants who received an invitation on or after November 1, 2020, can still be selected through the Alberta Express Entry stream, even if they work in LMIA exempt profession by the federal government.
In the previous year, Alberta was allocated 6,250 nominations for new permanent residents. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the province has reduced its allocation to 4,000 nominations. All these nominations were issued in a single month – June 2020, that’s why there was no Alberta PNP’s draw in the second half of the year.
