Museveni Credits NRM for Peace and Development in Oyam, Approves New Aber District Amid Massive Support

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has commended the restoration of peace and stability in Oyam District and the entire Lango sub-region, attributing it to the long-standing leadership of the NRM government.

While addressing a massive crowd at Booma Grounds in Oyam during a presidential campaign rally, Candidate Museveni declared that Uganda is, for the first time in over 500 years, enjoying unprecedented peace and stability. He urged Ugandans to safeguard this achievement by re-electing the NRM to continue the development agenda.

Museveni emphasized national unity as one of the critical gains under the NRM, reflected in the inclusive composition of state institutions such as the army, police, and other government bodies.

In a significant announcement, Museveni approved the creation of a new administrative unit, Aber District carved out of Oyam District. This decision followed persistent public appeals from local leaders, including Bosco Ogwal (NRM District Chairperson), Chris Ongom (UPC Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda), and Brian Ogutu (FDC Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda), among others.

Aber, currently a sub-county in Oyam South, gained district status after a public vote led by Museveni—favored it over a proposed major road construction plan.

Museveni outlined key development milestones achieved in Oyam and the Lango sub-region, including improvements in healthcare, education, road infrastructure, and energy—highlighting the Karuma Hydropower Plant as a major catalyst for industrialization in the area.

He reaffirmed the NRM government’s commitment to expanding economic and social infrastructure in the next term, if re-elected. Residents were encouraged to capitalize on existing infrastructure to improve their livelihoods.

The NRM Presidential candidate reiterated the success of government-led socioeconomic initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, and GROW. He noted these programs have enabled even the least educated citizens to engage in wealth creation.

“No more spectators in the country’s wealth creation drive,” Museveni declared, encouraging everyone to participate actively in productive economic activities. He also pledged to implement a wetland development plan tailored for Oyam and surrounding areas.

In a rare show of unity, top regional leaders from opposition parties UPC and FDC publicly declared their support for Museveni’s re-election. Chris Ongom (UPC) and Brian Ogutu (FDC) praised Museveni’s transformational leadership and officially announced their allegiance to the NRM during the rally.

Their move was welcomed by Dennis Hamson Obua, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, who applauded their decision and urged Oyam residents to safeguard the peace and development ushered in by the NRM government.

Local NRM Chairperson Bosco Ogwal also echoed the call for continuity, outlining the significant progress made in Oyam and Lango under the NRM and urging the electorate to protect those gains through their vote.
