The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged a comprehensive development package for Madi Okollo District, promising to enhance education, healthcare, roads, and household wealth creation if re-elected.

Speaking during a campaign rally at Ajai Playgrounds, General Museveni assured the electorate of his commitment to achieving equitable access to free universal education across all 46 parishes in the district. He criticized the current uneven distribution of government primary schools, where 69 schools are concentrated in only 32 parishes and pledged to correct the imbalance by constructing additional schools. He also promised to build five new secondary schools in the remaining five sub-counties.

“This move will ensure full implementation of free universal education for all children,” Museveni stated.

On health, Museveni announced plans to elevate Rhino Camp Health Centre IV to a fully-fledged General Hospital, addressing the long-standing need for a district hospital. He also committed to establishing Health Centre IIIs in all 12 sub-counties, ensuring access to basic health services at the grassroots level.

Addressing economic empowerment, the NRM candidate urged residents to intensify household-level wealth creation, leveraging government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). He cited the UGX 14 billion already disbursed to over 13,000 beneficiaries under various programs, including the Youth Livelihood and Women Empowerment initiatives.

Museveni emphasized that wealth creation is distinct from infrastructure development, noting that while the government is responsible for roads, electricity, and public services, individuals must utilize government support to boost their incomes. He pointed to the UGX 100 million allocated annually to each parish as a key tool for this transformation.

In terms of infrastructure, Museveni unveiled a series of new road tarmacking projects set to commence between 2025 and 2026. He also ruled out the possibility of bad roads persisting under his next term, referencing a strengthened national roads maintenance program by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

On the political front, First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni called on residents to turn out in large numbers and vote for General Museveni to continue fostering national unity and consolidating previous development gains.

Speaker of Parliament and NRM National Vice Chairperson Anita Among highlighted key projects brought to Madi Okollo under Museveni’s leadership, including the relocation of Uganda’s Rhino Sanctuary to the district—a move expected to generate foreign revenue and tourism opportunities.

NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Dennis Hamson Obua, described Museveni as a proven and tested leader, urging voters to retain him at the helm to sustain Uganda’s development trajectory.

The Madi Okollo rally concluded on a high note, with the campaign team heading next to Arua City Golf Course Grounds for the continuation of the West Nile campaign trail.
