Hosts UCU Cruise as Volleyball Action Serves Off at AUUS Games 2025

The 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games served off in style on day one, with hosts Uganda Christian University (UCU) asserting early dominance in men’s volleyball as competitive encounters lit up the courts.

Playing in front of a lively home crowd, UCU men delivered a commanding performance to sweep aside Kampala University (KU) 3–0. The hosts barely broke a sweat, comfortably taking the sets 25–15, 25–13 and 25–14 to announce their intentions at the tournament.

Bugema University also made a strong opening statement, cruising past Makerere University (MUK) in straight sets. Bugema controlled proceedings throughout, winning 25–13, 25–20 and 25–16 to register a convincing 3–0 victory.

Kampala International University (KIU) joined the list of dominant day-one performers after overpowering Makerere University Business School (MUBS) 3–0. KIU maintained consistency across all sets, winning 25–21, 25–17 and 25–17.

The most thrilling men’s contest of the day came in the clash between Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Bishop Stuart University (BSU). In a five-set marathon, BSU edged MUST 3–2 after a tense battle that swung back and forth. MUST took the first set 25–12, BSU responded 27–25, MUST edged the third 29–27, before BSU forced a decider with a 25–22 fourth set and sealed victory 15–8 in the final set.

In the women’s category, Kampala University opened their campaign with a hard-fought 3–2 win over Makerere University. KU took the first set 25–19, dropped the second 15–25, narrowly claimed the third 26–24, lost the fourth 22–25, before holding their nerve to win the deciding set 15–10.

Hosts UCU also shone in the women’s competition, comfortably defeating MUBS 3–0. The Angels dominated from start to finish, winning 25–17, 25–21 and 25–17 to delight the home fans.

Action continues with a packed schedule on day two. In the women’s fixtures, Bishop Stuart University face MUBS at 10:00am, before Kyambogo University take on Makerere University at noon.

The men’s competition resumes at 11:00am with Kampala University facing MUBS, while Makerere University battle MUST at the same time. Evening fixtures will see Bugema University lock horns with Bishop Stuart University at 7:00pm, before hosts UCU return to the court against KIU in a highly anticipated clash.
