Umukuka Congratulates Gen Gonyi, Col Nekesa on Election to Parliament

His Highness Umukuka III, Jude Mike Mudoma, has congratulated Brigadier General David Gonyi and Colonel Christine Nekesa Situma upon their election as Army Representatives to the Parliament of Uganda.

Both officers hail from the Bugisu sub-region, with Brig Gen David Gonyi from Sironko District and Col Christine Nekesa from Namisindwa District.

The congratulations were conveyed through the spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Steven Masiga, who said the Umukuka is pleased with the confidence and trust the UPDF leadership has placed in his subjects.

Masiga noted that the cultural leader is confident the two officers will effectively represent the interests of the Army constituency in Parliament.

“Both Brig Gen Gonyi and Col Nekesa have been very visible in activities across Bugisu, and we are happy that the Army leadership has recognised their contribution and service,” Masiga said.

He added that their election is a vote of appreciation to the Bugisu region, especially in recognition of the role played by the region in Uganda’s historical and current establishment, dating back to the FRONASA struggle.

“This is a revolutionary reward to us as the Bagisu,” Masiga remarked.

Masiga further explained that the Bugisu Cultural Institution has worked closely with both officers in various civil-related engagements in line with the Constitution of Uganda, particularly Articles 209(b) and (c), and described them as disciplined and resourceful officers.

“The trust they have received from their fellow officers was expected,” he said.

According to Masiga, the government is positioning the Bugisu region for greater national participation and development.

Several notable Bamasaaba also congratulated the two newly elected Members of Parliament. Rose Wekomba, a prominent businesswoman, praised the duo for their achievement and dedication to service.

Sr Mary Wasagali of the Equal Opportunities Commission also applauded Brig Gen Gonyi and Col Nekesa for the milestone.

Masiga concluded by saying that the region feels renewed and optimistic.

“As Bugisu, we feel special and reborn. The region is beginning to regain its rightful position in national affairs,” he said.
