After St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School appointed Marion Atwegyise as the Sport Tutor early this month, schools have started adopting the trend with rivals Buddo SS first to join the cue.

Buddo Secondary School has officially named Sharon Mugide to the newly created role.

The appointment places Buddo among the pioneers of structured sports governance in Uganda, becoming only the second secondary school after St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende to establish a dedicated Sports Tutor position.

For Mugide, the role represents more than a professional milestone — it is a return home. An alumna of Buddo Secondary School from 2008 to 2013, she now rejoins the institution as both an educator and sports administrator.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Studies of Arts/Design with Education from Kyambogo University, equipping her with academic expertise and a strong foundation in student mentorship.

Under the new structure, Mugide will oversee all sports-related correspondence and coordination between USSSA and the school, ensuring compliance with regulations, proper documentation, and improved performance management.

Speaking about her journey with Wallnet News so far, Mugide expressed appreciation for the leadership and mentorship she has received at the school.

“Joining the sports team of Buddo Secondary School has been a wonderful experience for me, one that I am very grateful for. Of course, I have encountered some ups and downs, but I am grateful to Mr. Muwonge Lawrence, the Headteacher, Mr. Agaba Amos, and the others because I have learnt a lot under their guidance,” she said.

She also applauded the determination shown by Buddo’s student-athletes, noting their resilience through challenges.

“Seeing the teams work hard through some challenges and not give up was inspiring. I was grateful to the Almighty that we eventually became national champions last year,” she added.

A New Chapter in Sports Leadership

With greater responsibility now entrusted to her office, Mugide remains optimistic about the future.

“I hope and pray that we keep working hard through the upcoming games. I have been watching the different teams put in a lot of effort, and I believe we can achieve the best results and emerge champions again,” she noted.

Her appointment signals a deliberate move toward professionalizing sports management at Buddo — strengthening accountability, nurturing talent, and sharpening competitive ambition.

As USSSA continues to advocate for improved governance in school sports, Buddo’s decision may well serve as a benchmark for other institutions seeking sustainable excellence through structured leadership.
