Mohamad Shaaf reaped seven wickets on Sunday as Wanderers beat Patidar by 2 wickets to secure their first win of the season in the National Men’s 50 Over League.
Wanderers bowled off their campaign with defeat to Nyakasura three weeks ago, but the side found little resistance in dispatching Patidar on Sunday.
After winning the toss, Patidar put themselves in, but it’s a decision that turned out terrible as they managed only 62 runs.
That, all thanks to Shaaf who was unstoppable with the ball. Enroute to his incredible display, Shaaf twice missed a hat trick, but that did not save Patidar who now count two losses in two games.
Shaaf did the magic with the ball, but Wanderers almost made his efforts count for nothing. Their chase began in the most disappointing way, losing six wickets inside ten Overs while managing just 26 runs.
The pressure only eased up on the side when Denis Musali and Ivan Kakande got introduced. This partnership steadied the ship as it batted for eight Overs, before Kakande (14) was dismissed in the 19th Over.
Musali (9) got caught three Overs later, but with just four runs needed from 156 balls to win the game, all Joseph Byaruhanga and Shaaf needed to do was rotate the strike to win the game.
That’s exactly what they did and the low scoring game ended with Wanderers clinching it in 22nd Over.
The other league game that was played on Sunday saw Nyakasura beat Tornado Bee by 4 wickets to go top of the table.
Anas Baig with his 47 guided his side to 150, but with the batting power at Nyakasura’s disposal, that was always going to a be low score.
Nyakasura completed the chase in the 24th Over with Fortunate Alijuna hitting 60. Opener Amos Ahura (32) and Mathew Musinguzi 34 not out contributed in that regard.
With the ball, Innocent Mwebaze the stand in captain in the absence of Pascal Murungi- who’s in Zimbabwe for trials- picked up three wickets so did Joseph Baguma.
In the Championship, Rounders won it’s double header against Premier, winning the first game by 32 runs and the second by 3 wickets.
It was their first league action this season. The wins take them top of Group B. Premier meanwhile remain bottom of the group.
