Earlier this week, the electoral commission chairman justice Simon Byabakama declined to nominate Jimmy Akena and two others on grounds that him and other party candidates had a pending case before the high court seeking determination of the rightful party president.

However the move by the electoral commission to cease Akena’s nomination troubled him and decided to run o court seeking an immediate injunction ordering the electoral commission to nominate him pending a court determination on the party wrangles.

Akena informed court that despite having all the qualifications needed for his nomination such as getting the required signature endorsement from 98 districts and requisite academic qualifications, he was stubbornly barred by the EC from nomination.

However the EC legal team led by Eric Ssabiiti asked court to dismiss this application because it is overtaken by events given the fact that the nominations concluded on Wednesday

The court asked the parties in h matter to file written submissions before it delivers a ruling on 1st next month.
