Uganda Premier League (UPL) side, Kitara will hope to overturn a 3-2 loss to advance past the first qualifying round in their maiden CAF Confederation Cup appearance.
The Uganda Cup winners lost 3-2 to Libyan side, Al Hilal Benghazi in the first leg of the preliminary round of the prestigious continental inter club competition played last Friday, August 16.
The two sides will meet again on Friday, August 23, at the Benina Martyrs stadium, the same venue in Libya, where the Ugandan side played hosts to the Libyan team a week ago.
Denis Omedi, who scored the second of Kitara’s two goals in their 3-2 loss is optimistic that the Royals can overturn the result in Libya. He has made a fair assessment ahead of the much awaited fixture that’s now less than three days away.
“It will be a very tough game!” Omedi admitted, before he also confidently added:
“But we have the determination and confidence that we can go far come Friday, should we minimize the errors that cost us the first leg.
“We didn’t get the results we had wanted in the first leg, every player gave their best that night especially the last half and you saw what happened.”
“We managed to score two goals and even defend better and with that kind of display from my teammates we can make it.”
In the first leg, the Ugandan side had to host their home match far away from home – at their opponent’s own home ground, but managed to put up such a spirited fight, coming back to score two goals with a man-less in the second half.
Kitara goalkeeper Chrispus Kusiima was sent off in the 50th minute, as Brian Aheebwa and Omedi scored for Kitara, while Muhammad Shaban, Faisal Elbadary and Talha Rizk scored for Al Hilal.
