Both of Alberta’s newest PNP draws needed only a CRS score of 300 for Express Entry candidates
Alberta recently offered two rounds of Express Entry invites under its Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) on September 14, wherein it invited 385 immigration aspirants to apply for a provincial nomination. Applicants had to obtain a score of at least 300 in the Express Entry system to be considered for an invitation. The AINP then welcomed 450 Express Entry candidates with scores of at least 300 on September 21.
Since resuming invitation rounds in January 2021, Alberta has invited 5,342 Express Entry applicants to file for a provincial nomination. It has taken a little respite in the latter months of 2020. Alberta has the power to issue 6,250 nomination certificates in 2021.
What exactly is the Alberta Express Entry Stream, and how does it operate?
The Alberta Express Entry program is a condensed version of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). It allows the provincial government to examine the federal government’s Express Entry pool for profiles of individuals who may be eligible for a provincial nomination. Express Entry application management system is utilized to manage the three Federal High Skilled programs i.e., Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

If you fulfil the Express Entry eligibility standards, you will be awarded a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Points are awarded depending on your age, education, employment experience, English or French language competence, and other factors. On a monthly basis, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conduct Express Entry draws and invites the top-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence.
With the help of the Express Entry system, it is possible to immigrate without a provincial nomination; however, those with lower CRS scores can apply for a PNP. Provincial nominees receive a 600-point boost to their overall score. If the lowest-scoring Alberta draw candidates are recommended, their new CRS scores will be 901, which will be more than enough to be called to the next Express Entry draw.
Eligibility for the Alberta Express Entry Stream
To be eligible for a provincial nomination through the Alberta Express Entry stream, you must have work experience in a qualifying occupation. The AINP does not publish a list of jobs that are eligible for the stream, but rather a list of vocations that are not appropriate for the stream. This sector primarily provides work opportunities on positions such as food service managers, transport truck drivers, and cooks, among other things.
Your Express Entry profile should show that you are willing to move to Alberta. For example, your work experience or a job offer in Alberta can increase your chances of being nominated. Canadian education is also beneficial. It also helps if you have a parent, child, or sibling who is a permanent resident or citizen of Alberta.
