Alberta inviting skilled immigrants via AINP

Since the beginning of September, the minimum cut-off score for Alberta PNP draws has remained constant at 300.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) welcomed 275 Express Entry applicants with a score of at least 300, to apply for a provincial nomination. In all, four Alberta Express Entry stream draws were held in September, each with a minimum score requirement of 300. Last month alone, 1,610 invites were issued.

Since resuming invitation rounds in January 2021, Alberta has invited 5,617 Express Entry applicants to file for a provincial nomination. It has taken a little break in the latter months of 2020. The draws invite Express Entry applicants to file for a nomination certificate, which will substantially help their permanent residency application. Alberta is permitted to issue 6,250 nomination certificates this year.

The Alberta Express Entry stream is a streamlined version of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). It enables the provincial government to search the federal government’s Express Entry pool for profiles of persons who could be qualified for a provincial nomination. The Express Entry application management system is used for the three Federal High Skilled programs: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. If you meet the requirements for Express Entry, you will be assigned a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). You get points based on your age, education, job experience, English or French language proficiency, and other criteria.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) perform Express Entry draws on a monthly basis, asking the top-scoring applicants to apply for permanent residence. It is possible to immigrate without a provincial nomination through the Express Entry system; however, those with lower CRS scores may still apply for a PNP. Provincial nominees receive an automatic 600-point boost to their overall score. If the lowest-scoring applicants in the new Alberta draw are nominated, their recent CRS scores will be 900, which will be more than enough to be invited to the next Express Entry draw.

You must have work experience in a skilled occupation to qualify for a provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream. The AINP does not give a list of eligible jobs; instead, it provides a list of occupations that are not suitable for the stream. Many people who apply for jobs in this field, work as food service managers, transport truck drivers, and cooks, among other things.

Specific characteristics, such as work experience, a Canadian education, or a job offer in Alberta, improve your chances of getting nominated. It is also advantageous to have a family member, such as a parent, kid, or sibling, who is already residing in Alberta.
