Former Express FC head coach Alex Isabirye is joining Kyetume in the same role, the SportsNation can reliably report.
The former Vipers and BUL tactician has struck a deal with the Mukono-based side, and was part of Monday’s training.
With no official announcement yet, Isabirye will take charge of the betpawa Big League side until at least the end of the 2023/24 season.
Hamidu Kibirango, who has been temporarily taking charge of the team’s training sessions will now work with Isabirye as his assistant, alongside Augustine Nsumba.
Isabirye lands this new job days after he resigned from Express on March 1 citing lack of support from Administration as players had gone three months without pay.
The Red Eagles have already started life without Isabirye, as they played and lost a crucial Uganda Cup round of 16 match against BUL FC in the coach’s absence at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
Express lost a penalty shout-out (4-1) to BUL following a 1-1 draw to bow out of the Uganda Cup.
Isabirye, who led Vipers to the UPL and Uganda Cup victories last season will be expected to turn things around at Kyetume almost immediately.
The domestic double-winning coach comes in to find Kyetume in the red zone of the Big League – 12th of 15 teams with just 17 points from 16 games.
The struggling second division side has managed only four wins and five draws, while they’ve lost a worrying seven times, scoring 17 goals and conceding 22 in the process.
Kyetume will return to Big League action on Sunday, March 10 against Onduparaka at Nakisunga Ssaza Grounds-Gayaza.
He returns to the Slaughters for the first time since April 2021 when he was sacked after just six matches.
He was appointed by Kyetume on March 2 2021 to replace Livingston Mbabazi but after a string of poor results without a win, he was replaced by Jackson Mayanja who was a Technical Director than.
