A 3rd year Mechanic Engineering student at Makerere University has been advised to apply for a dead year as police continues with investigations into a case where he is charged with alleged rape.
A 23-year-old Benjamin Oumo has been on remand at luzira prison since February 2024 without bail for allegedly raping a female student of Metropolitan University who had paid him a visit at his hall of residence as a friend.
Oumo however insisted that the alleged victim was his girlfriend and had been visiting him often. He says that on that fateful day, they finally had consensual sex before she turned around and reported the said encounter to police as a rape case.
