Recently, a video circulating on social media depicted Azawi collaborating with the late Mowzey Radio on her latest song, “Masavu.” The apparent similarity between the verses of the song has sparked debate and raised questions about its authenticity.
Speculations arose, with some suggesting that Azawi might have access to unreleased songs by Mowzey Radio. However, Azawi, associated with Swangz Avenue, has stepped forward to address these allegations, attributing the controversy to an individual known as Shartel. According to Azawi, Shartel utilized Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manipulate audio elements, leading to the perceived resemblance between the songs. She firmly denies having any collaboration with the late Goodlyfe artiste or possessing his hard drive, as some rumors suggest.
Azawi recounted the immediate backlash following the release of “Masavu” on YouTube, where accusations of song theft flooded her notifications within minutes. Despite her attempts to explain the situation and clarify the role of AI technology, she acknowledges the challenge of convincing the public, particularly Ugandans, of her innocence. She highlights that such incidents are not unique to her and that other artists have faced similar controversies.
Expressing her concern, Azawi emphasized the potential consequences of such accusations on an artist’s reputation. While Shartel’s actions may have been intended as a form of entertainment, she warns of the serious implications it could have on an artist’s credibility.
