Bengo Says Wakiso Giants Still in Rebuilding Process

Following Wakiso Giants FC’s 1-1 draw against Soltilo Bright Stars in their Uganda Premier League opener, Coach Steven Bengo highlighted the ongoing rebuilding efforts for his team.

The match at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium saw Herbert Assimwe score his first goal for the team in the 36th minute, giving Wakiso Giants a brief lead.

However, Soltilo Bright Stars equalized in the 68th minute with a goal from John Kokas Alou, securing a share of the points.

Bengo acknowledged the challenges faced during the game and emphasized that the team is still in a significant rebuilding phase.

“We tried our best in the first half, but things became challenging in the second half, leading to the equalizer,” Bengo said.

“We are still in the rebuilding process, and I’m proud of the team’s effort under these circumstances.”

He noted that the team struggled with aggression and ball control, allowing their opponents to gain an advantage.

Despite these difficulties, Bengo was pleased with the strategic adjustments made during the match. “Our substitutions were strategic and helped us stabilize the game,” he explained.

Regarding individual performances, Bengo admitted that some players did not meet expectations.

“Some individuals underperformed, but we have the experience to address these issues. We will analyze our performance, make necessary adjustments, and continue to reorganize,” Bengo added.

For Assimwe, the game was a bittersweet debut. While he was pleased to score, he was disappointed that the team could not secure all three points.

“It was my first game, and I’m glad I could score, but I wish we could have gotten the win. Next time, we’ll work harder with the help of our coaches.”

Asiimwe also praised his teammates for their performance, considering it was the first game of the season. “It wasn’t bad, and I believe we can build on this as the season progresses,” he noted.

Wakiso Giants will look to improve as they prepare to face Maroons on September 20th at Luzira Prison Grounds.
