Kampala– On Tuesday, High Court declined to deliver a ruling in Col (Rtd) Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s application seeking for bail and stay his trial untill the constitutional court pronounces itself on the matter he filed before it.
The ruling was expected to be delivered via mail on 23rd December 2025, however, Justice Emmanuel Baguma, the trial judge through Salaamu Godfrey Ngobi, the Assistant Registrar Criminal Division, told the applicants, that the decision was not ready.
“The trial Judge has directed me to inform you that the ruling will be
delivered on 29th December 2025 at 11:00 am in the presence of the Applicants and their Counsel and the Respondent, not by email.”
Secondly, the Assistant Registrar also informed the parties in the matter that he was also directed by the trial Judge to issue production warrant for 29th December 2025.
Having spent 2024 Christmas day in Luzira Prison, it’s now clear that Besigye will also spend 2025 Christmas in Jail.
Besigye is charged with treason charges alongside his aides Hajji Obeid Lutale and Capt Oola Dennis a serving UPDF officer.
Besigye and his two co-accused persons have been in detention since November last year on charges of treason they allegedly committed in countries of Kenya, Greece and Switzerland between 2023 and November last year.
