Forward Gabriel Matata has agreed to return to Onduparaka after two years away, reliable sources from Arua have revealed.
The West Nile-based FUFA Big League side held talks with the South Sudan International, and successfully convinced him into returning to the side he left in 2022 after the expiry of his contract.
The former Mvara Boys player is fondly remembered for leading the regional league club to their first ever quarter final appearance in the Uganda Cup after eliminating BUL at the round of 16 in 2020.
From Mvara, he then joined Onduparaka, signed for Mbarara City, crossed to South Sudan’s Atlabara, returned to Uganda to Blacks Power, moved to Lia and back again to Onduparaka.
Matata is a great addition for the Caterpillars who are beefing up their attacking line as for the second consecutive season, they’ll be seeking to return to the Uganda Premier League.
Onduparaka will kick off the 2024/25 Big League season with West Nile derby, as they will host newly promoted Paidha Black Angels at the Greenlight Stadium in Arua on October 6.
