Biyinzika Murder Suspects Committed to High Court

Five people suspected to have killed a four-year-old girl, Hope Biyinzika have been committed to the High Court which has jurisdiction to hear and decide their case.

The suspects’ committal has given ray of hope of justice to the deceased’s parents and family members.

On production before Mukono court on September 19^, 2024, the five, Fatuma Nansubuga, Allan Ssenkuba, Shafik Malik, Fred Kayemba and Sharif Katongole who appeared before Grade II Magistrate, Stephen Waidhuba read the charge of having sacrificed the child by hitting her with a hoe on the head, and removed her teeth and other body parts.

It is alleged that on August 23, 2023, Biyinza, the deceased was allegedly picked from her parents’ home as she had just returned from school, and mysteriously disappeared.

Her parents, Vincent Kikonge and Mwajabu Bwega of Namaliiri village in Kasawo sub-county reported her disappearance to police upon which a search was mounted.

After a week-long search, Biyinza’s body was found in a pit latrine in the neighbourhood; blood had been drained from the body and body parts taken in a suspected sacrifice.  A post mortem report indicated that she had died of injuries on her head.

The five were picked after indicators pointed at them, and they were remanded to Kawuga prison in Mukono, from where they were sent to Luzira Maximum Prison on remand.

Committing them to High Court, Magistrate Waidhuba said they had spent the mandatory six months of remand in prison.

He also ascertained that the suspects according to the evidence established by the prosecution, they have a case to answer, and therefore, he committed them to the high court to answer murder charges.

He directed the prosecution at testimony time to prove that the said parents were the biological parents of the deceased and that at the time of her death she was a learner at Skyluck Primary School Kabimbiri in Kasawo sub-county.

Prosecution was also asked to prove at testimony time that on the fateful day, she came back home at around 1:00pm, and when her parents came back after 7:00pm, she was missing.

It is alleged that on September 23, 2023, the deceased’s father Kikonge got a phone call on number 0774974708 informing him that they had her child and wanted sh1.2m in return for his daughter, whereupon they sent the money as directed by the kidnappers. That all this notwithstanding, they still found his daughter’s body in a neighbour’s pit latrine.

According to Magistrate Waidhuba, prosecution will be expected to prove that the deceased’s brother on September 30^, 2023 reported to his mother that he had detected a nasty smell from the neighbour’s toilet, whereupon she flashed a torch and saw her dead daughter’s body. She immediately called the police who retrieved the body.

The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary where it was established that she had died from the deep wound on the head.

One of the suspects Fred Kayemba then applied for bail saying he was very ill and was not receiving treatment in prison, which request was turned down by court with advice to him to ask for treatment from the prisons warders.

Both parents later expressed hope that there is a ray of hope for them to see justice after the suspects were committed to high court.

They appealed to police to arrest one Fred Bogere whom they say is the one who made the phone call demanding for the ransom money.
