Bobi was not shot- Police insist

Police authorities have maintained that there is no evidence to support claims that National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was shot during an altercation in Kira-Bulindo, Wakiso district.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke emphasized that the incident, which occurred as Kyagulanyi left a function at lawyer George Musisi’s home, is still under investigation.

“The information from officers at the time was that they saw him stumbling while getting into his vehicle. However, his team and several witnesses claimed he was shot. Until a professional investigation is carried out, we can’t jump to any conclusions,” Rusoke stated.

Reports from Kyagulanyi’s team and social media videos have suggested that he was struck by a teargas canister, causing him to fall to the ground and injure his leg. He was later seen being assisted by his aides and rushed to the hospital.

Despite these claims, Rusoke insisted that no conclusions can be drawn from social media footage. “We cannot base our findings on videos posted on social media. An allegation must be backed by a professional investigation, including medical assessments,” he added.

He also urged opposition politicians to adhere to police guidelines and warned against actions that could tarnish the police’s image.
