Bobi Wine is under siege, says Mpuuga as tensions escalate

Suspended National Unity Platform deputy president for Buganda, Mathias Mpuuga has said party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine is under siege.

In a statement responding to his suspension earlier this week , Mpuuga said he had seen the suspension making rounds on social media “in the latest fashion by the party” , but wondered whether it was indeed from the party president.

“If indeed it is your document and signature, I appreciate and sympathize with you on the current desperate situation. I appreciate and understand that you are under siege. I don’t know how to help you and support you,” Mpuuga said.

Kyagulanyi earlier this week announced the suspension of Mpuuga from his position for going against the party constitution and values.

This stemmed from the shs500 million ‘service award’ that Mpuuga pocketed while still the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

Efforts by the biggest opposition party to drop Mpuuga from the position of commissioner of parliament and replace him with Mityana Municipality legislator, Francis Zaake have been frustrated by Speaker Anita Among who said NUP didn’t have power to recall a commissioner.

In his latest missive, Mpuuga said claims that he failed to explain himself to the party over the shs500 million service award.

“ In view of the contents of the impugned document, that the person suspended failed to supply a satisfactory explanation, yet the same person was earlier on reported to have confessed and apologised, I don’t know how to rescue you and the party from the captors.”

“ The prevailing desperate situation and the circumstances we find ourselves in, will afford me more time and space to consult with the rank and file of the party for a way forward. Accept once again my sympathies for the unyielding siege that has impaired judgement at the highest echelons of the party. I remain at your service and that of the party and the country.”
